Gesamtschule Bergedorf: About us
Where exactly is this place ?? Never
heard of it !

Have a look at the map of Europe (Locations) to get a rough idea
!
Actually, Bergedorf is a borough of Hamburg, located about 20
km south-east of the city. The district of Bergedorf has about
110.000 inhabitants. The area is partly urban with an industrial
and service sector, partly rural with a lot of farming (vegetables
and flowers) especially down to the river "Elbe".
... and there are some quiet forests around where
exhausted teachers take relaxing walks ...
Founded in 1979, "Bergedorf Comprehensive"
has grown to become the largest school in the vicinity. At the
moment there are about 1200 students and about 120 teachers -
struggling along.
Our youngest boys and girls are - about - 11 years
old, and they have already 4 years of primary school behind them.
The average pupil leaves our school after grade 10, i.e. when
she/he is 16 to 17.
The final exam these pupils take can be the "Hauptschul-"
or the "Realschulabschluss" which is comparable to the
British "GCSE", in other words a lower and/or medium
level of exam.
About 1/3 of the students stay on for another
three years and finish school taking the so-called "Abitur"
("A"-level).
So, our school (as do many, but not all comprehensive
schools in Germany) provides for the greatest variety of final
exams.
Over the last years we have constantly been working
to change and improve our didactic and educational methods as
well as organisational structures. That's probably one reason
why it is not unfair to state that our school has a fine reputation
not only in the neighbourhood.
November
2001: Comenius-Action Day at the GSB.
Here you can see our headmaster, Dr. Hagener,
organising the "take-off" of the Comenius balloons.
It was - by the way - a grey day. Still, the younger pupils, especially,
enjoyed it.
