Gesamtschule Bergedorf: Work experience

Experiences in the working world (world in touch, 2000)

At the end of their work experience the pupils have to evaluate what they have achieved, what they liked etc. Here are some excerpts from their reports. These reports are - on the average - 25 pages long.

Julia:
My work experience was useful for me. First I didn´t know what to do after school. But now I could see some jobs that I like. (Shipagent)

Mikis:
My work was a new experience for me. Now I know what I want to do later, after school. (Rural region, Office)

Jan L.:
At my first "job", I could see what people working in the commercial sector have to do (public bus transportation system). My second one wasn´t so interesting, because I had to stand all the time. ("HAUNI", the cigarette machine maker)

Miriam:
My job was a very good experience. I did two totally different ones: in a lawyer's office, and as a car mechanic. I think going to school is easier than working in a job. So I decided to stay at school and take my "Abitur".

Simone:
The "jobs" were funny, both were very interesting. (physiotherapist, interior decorator)

Melanie:
My experiences were very good. I think I will do one of these jobs after school. (physiotherapist, zoo keeper)

Ayu:
My work experiences were useful. The working world is a hard one. After a work experience you can see if you still want to do the job. (Bank, Insurance)

Svenja:
The experiences were good, because before I had different ideas. You can see if you like the job.

Lasse:
I’ve learned a lot, and it was a welcomed change. I’m sure it’s worth it. (Telekom, IQ-Tec)

Yves:
I liked my first job more than the second. I had to get up early. (Bank, Office)

Jan S.:
I had to get up at six o’clock. Sometimes it was boring, but it was a nice experience. (Painter, Lufthansa-Airlines)

Sebastian:
Now I know the difference between school and working in a job. (NDR= North German Radio & TV Station , Building society)

Daniel:
My jobs were an important experience for me, both weren´t anything for me. At the first I had almost nothing to do. (Bergedorfer newspaper, Haspa/Bank)

Carina:
My job at the hairdresser's was a really good experience. It was fun, I´ve learned a lot. My second one was at the big insurance company "Volksfürsorge". I guess I´m going to do this after school.

Jannes:
The first job was good, because I had the same work like in an apprenticeship. The second was even better because I liked the work much more than the first. (Ford/car maker, tinsmith)

Till:
My first job as a decorator in a department store was not very good, I had nothing to do. The second was much more interesting. I could even "write" my experiences in the IT-department of a big insurance company on a CD.
